Custom Firmware Development Services — Crunch-IS

Custom Firmware Development Services.

Crunch-IS provides firmware development services for embedded systems across industrial, consumer, and connected devices. We scope, build, and validate firmware under the real conditions your hardware will face, with security and maintainability treated as core requirements from the first architecture conversation.

Our AI-enabled engineering model runs agents across the software workstreams, so the build moves faster without thinning the team.

Benefits of Custom Firmware Development

01

Lower Lifecycle Cost

Firmware built on a validated architecture costs less to maintain, extend, and support over time. The custom firmware development services we deliver are structured to reduce total cost of ownership, not just the cost of the initial build.

02

Reliable Field Performance

Validation against real operating conditions means the device performs consistently across production units, not just on development hardware. Power variations, temperature shifts, component tolerances, and concurrent load are addressed before production rather than flagged by customers afterward.

03

Security That Ships With the Product

Because security is scoped in at the architecture stage, vulnerabilities are designed out rather than patched in late — when firmware is hardest and most expensive to fix.

04

Built for the Roadmap

The firmware architecture supports future hardware revisions and feature additions. You’re not paying to rebuild the foundation each time the product evolves.

Firmware Development Services We Offer

01 Hardware and Requirements Analysis

We work through your hardware specs in detail, define what the device has to do, and identify the constraints that will shape the build — peripherals, power budgets, timing, and integration points that are easy to overlook early and painful to fix once development is moving.

02 Custom Firmware Development

We write firmware for your specific device, from hardware initialization and peripheral management through to application logic and system state control. Where resources are tight, we build bare-metal; where the product needs concurrent tasks and defined scheduling, we bring in an RTOS — and we walk you through the reasoning behind the call.

03 BSP and Driver Development

We build board support packages and peripheral drivers matched to your exact hardware configuration, then validate them against the physical device. Generic reference code gets a project moving; it rarely survives contact with production hardware, so we validate ours on the target before it ships.

04 Bootloader and OTA Update Development

We build bootloaders and field-update mechanisms with secure boot verification, rollback protection, and integrity validation as standard features. Firmware that can’t be updated safely in the field becomes a liability the moment a fix is needed, so the update path is designed in from the start.

05 Testing and Validation

Validation runs across the full development cycle — functional, integration, and stress testing under conditions that reflect real operational states. Issues caught during development cost far less than those caught after deployment, so we surface them under realistic load and environmental variability before release.

Our Capabilities

01

Bare-Metal and RTOS Architecture

We architect directly against the hardware for resource-constrained systems and integrate real-time operating systems where the product genuinely requires predictable scheduling and concurrent task management. If the system can do without the RTOS overhead, we say so.

02

Peripheral and Communication Interfaces

We implement drivers and protocol stacks across common embedded interfaces — I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, USB, and wireless connectivity — matched to your peripheral set and integration requirements.

03

Firmware Security and Hardening

We build in encrypted communications, secure storage, access control, and attack surface reduction. Firmware operates at a privilege level where vulnerabilities are hard to patch after-ship, so hardening is scoped from the architecture stage onward.

04

Low-Power and Real-Time Optimization

We tune firmware for power budgets and timing determinism — managing sleep states, interrupt latency, and cycle-level performance where the application demands it.

05

AI-Enabled Engineering

AI agents run across the firmware software workstreams — generating boilerplate, expanding test coverage, and keeping documentation current — under the review of a senior engineer at every step. The result is faster delivery of software layers without the quality risk associated with unreviewed automation.

01 / 05

What You Get

01

A Codebase Your Team Owns

We hand over fully documented firmware with architecture decisions recorded, interfaces specified, and the build environment configured.

02

One Lead, Full Accountability

You’re not managing handoffs between teams or rebuilding context at each phase — the person who scoped the work is the one accountable for delivering it.

03

A Defined Post-Release Period

Every engagement includes a post-release period with active monitoring and a defined response process for any issues that surface during live operations.

04

Faster Delivery Without a Bigger Team

Our AI-enabled build model compresses timelines, so you get a working firmware sooner without paying for a scaled-up delivery team.

Why Choose Crunch-IS as Your Partner

01

Field-Shaped Engineering Judgment

As a firmware development company that has shipped real products into real environments, we scope, build, and de-risk based on how devices actually behave in the field — variable component tolerances, power conditions, and integration edge cases.

02

AI-Enabled Delivery, Human-Reviewed

AI agents run across the firmware software workstreams with senior engineers accountable for every output, so you get faster delivery of the software layers without the quality risk of unreviewed automation.

03

Risk Is Standard Practice

Dependency mapping, security review, hardware validation, and post-release monitoring are included as standard in every engagement. We plan around the points where firmware projects most commonly fail, so they surface in scoping rather than in production.

Custom Firmware Development FAQ

What is firmware development?

Firmware development is the process of creating the low-level software that runs directly on hardware devices and controls how they work. It’s the bridge between the hardware and any higher-level software.

What are the typical challenges in the firmware development process?

Poor requirements are the most common. When the hardware environment isn’t properly mapped before development starts, dependencies get missed, and the build has to be corrected mid-stream — which is far more expensive than catching the gap early.

How important is firmware security?

Very important. Firmware vulnerabilities are difficult to fix after a product ships, and in some deployment scenarios, they can’t be patched remotely at all. The cost and complexity of a security issue grow significantly the later it is addressed in the product lifecycle.

Can you update my existing firmware?

Yes. Before any work starts, we review the codebase and assess the hardware environment. That tells us what’s worth keeping, what needs reworking, and where the risk sits. We scope the engagement on what we actually find, not on assumptions made before we’ve looked at the code.

Is it possible to create firmware without hardware?

Some early-stage development can be done using emulators and simulation environments, and we use them for initial testing. But firmware that has only ever run in simulation carries real risk in production, so validating on the actual target hardware before release is not optional.

What firmware development services do you offer?

Crunch-IS’s firmware development services cover requirements analysis, custom bare-metal and RTOS development, BSP and driver development, bootloader and OTA work, and testing and validation. Each engagement is scoped to your specific hardware environment and product requirements.
